After reading about several elements out in the universe, some friends decided that Stepping Stones should have its very own Black Hole. So we got to work! While painting our giant Black Hole we had lots of discussions about what a Black Hole is, what is does, where they are located in the universe, and spaghettification. We all that is was incredible that once something goes into a Black Hole, it never comes back out. Once our Black Hole was hung up, friends were a little suspicious about its intentions. Eve - "Our Black Hole won't really suck us up, right?" Felix - "Is it ok to sit under the Black Hole? I don't want it to make me disappear." After explaining that our Black Hole wasn't actually real and was just a model, everyone was feeling a lot more comfortable about its place in our school. Then Miles realized something - "Our Black Hole doesn't look right! Remember that Black Holes have white light shooting out of it? We need to make our Black Hole do that!" So that afternoon, Haley and some friends gave the Black Hole our interpretation of the shooting white light.... Our finished product! But that's not all! After painting our Black Hole my friends were so inspired that they decided we should paint all of the planets in our Solar System as well! Be on the lookout for our amazing Solar System! It will be hanging from the ceiling soon! When you can, please take a moment to peruse the classroom. Our walls are filled with lots extraordinary work our students have done while learning and exploring the universe! And I have a feeling we will be displaying even more incredible projects soon!

Our space theme is infiltrating all corners of our classroom, including building with magnatiles! Tai not only built this incredible multi-leveled structure on his own, but it was a rocket ship! The sides of the structure can come down and you can see the space where the astronauts are seated. Amazing work, Tai! Holly and I have teamed up over the past couple of weeks to expand our investigation of the universe. And our space exploration is out of this world! Every day we are discussing different aspects of the universe - The Solar System, galaxies, black holes, asteroids, comets, and meteors are just a few of the topics that come up daily for us. We have also done a ton of dramatic play involving space. We've created a Space Place in the classroom! The children created spaceships, a huge asteroid, and have been labeling several objects found in the universe, gone on expeditions all over space, and so much more! Here are some photos of the fun we've been having learning about the universe we live in. Having a discussion about solar flares. Several of our expeditions to outer space! Our space bin Creating a picture of colliding galaxies! Some astronauts counting down to blast off!! Thanks so much again for the incredible donations we have received for this curriculum thread! It's been absolutely amazing seeing every single student at our school find some way to become involved in our learning adventure through the universe. Our Space Exploration Continues!
